A Night in the ER
Last week on Monday we were cleaning up after dinner, poor little Scooter started crying. We immediately realized his fingers had been shut in the pantry door. Cute little guy had somehow wrapped his hand around the door on the hinge side (of course the hinge side) and the door was closed tight with his hand inside. We immediately opened the door and pulled his hand out. We ran it under cold water and put some frozen peas on it – figuring he would like that better than ice. It didn’t look very pretty so we made the decision to take him to have it looked at.
Because of the time of day, our choices were somewhat limited so we headed up to Primary Children’s Medical Center. The ER was packed. They took good care of us. By the time we go there Scooter was more upset about the ice pack than anything else. He wasn’t a fan of the stethoscope or the blood pressure cuff either. They x-rayed his hand and had us wait in the radiology waiting room. He was such a good sport. Of course he acted like nothing had happened. His little pointer finger was so swollen.
Three hours later they bandaged up his hand and told us to bring him to his pediatrician if he was still acting like it was bothering him in a few days. The x-ray looked fine, but in one as little as he it is difficult to see a fracture until it is healing. The next day it was practically impossible to tell that anything had happened. Cute Caroline had figured out how to keep his bandage on by putting a sock over his hand and carefully safety pinning it to his sleeve or pajamas.

I'm glad he's fine. Just hearing the word "ER" makes my heart race! (See my November post for the reason why).
