100 Candles

We have been neglectful of our family blog. We are all still here and moving forward - just not keeping track of our life on our family blog. Here's to trying to keep on top of it in 2011.

Yesterday we celebrated two birthdays. Rachel and her great grandpa share the same birthday - February 5th. This year Rachel turned 12 and grandpa turned 88. When we were counting how many candles would need to be on the cake we were surprised to find out we would need 100. Rachel can't possibly be 12 and grandpa can't possibly be 88. How did that happen? It just happened to be Superbowl Sunday as well. The only NFL game we ever watch at our house. It was so much fun to watch the commercials (an the game) together - and to celebrate two people who we love so much.

Just for fun, I searched online for a cake with 100 candles. This is why we didn't try it. Can you imagine trying to light all of these?
We had a great time. We had yummy food - like always. We played and played. Rachel and grandpa played catch. He kept joking that he may be an old man, but he can still catch a ball.
Of course we had yummy cakes and pies. We had two kinds of cake and three kinds of pie to choose from. I was premature in my picture taking and only got three of our five choices....but they look pretty good don't they?
We decided after all was said and done....100 candles on the cake would be a little much. Instead, we put 3. 1 and 2 for 12?
We gave grandpa the universal gift....the green stuff. Rachel got some fun presents. She got her first ever MP3 player. We have had a hard time getting it out of her ears since Saturday. We loaded up all sorts of fun music on there for her. Her parents gave her some fun clothes and a new DS game.
Matthew and Jonathan both fell asleep. We wore them out! Matthew fell asleep on the floor and Jonathan fell asleep on his daddy's lap.
We decided not to let them sleep for too long or else they wouldn't sleep when it was time for bed. They do not like to be woken up. Here's poor Jonathan cuddling with his aunt Elizabeth. You can totally tell he has been crying.
